据报道地球物理研究字母，a biweekly peer-reviewed scientific journal of geoscience published by the American Geophysical Union, sea ice coverage in the Arctic Ocean has declined, on average, by more than one-third from 1984 through 2018. Only in two portions of the last ice area – one patch immediately north of Greenland, and another swath centred more than 1,300 kilometres to the west along Canada’s northernmost islands – does near-total sea-ice coverage persist from year to year, the researchers say.
